Why I Created the Harvest Grove Children's Book Series

For most of my career, I have been fascinated by the natural compounds found in foods, herbs, fruits, and vegetables. These compounds help plants thrive and have been the subject of scientific study for decades.
As a nutritionist and herbalist, I have spent years teaching adults about these fascinating compounds. But one day I began wondering: What if these compounds had magical origin stories of their own?
That question became Harvest Grove.
Harvest Grove is a magical world where fairies watch over gardens, fields, forests, and orchards. Each fairy is inspired by a natural compound found in a food, herb, fruit, or vegetable. Through imagination and storytelling, these characters bring a touch of wonder to concepts that many children may encounter later in science, nutrition, or nature studies.
The stories are not textbooks, lessons, or lectures. They are fairy tales filled with adventure, woodland creatures, magical gifts, and colorful illustrations. My goal is simply to spark curiosity and wonder.
The first book in the series, Ally & the Garlic that Wanted to be Eaten, is inspired by allicin, one of the natural compounds found in garlic. Future stories will introduce children to characters inspired by compounds found in pumpkins, berries, tomatoes, broccoli, citrus fruits, and many other plants.
I hope these stories encourage children to see food, plants, and nature with fresh eyes. The world around us is full of fascinating things, and sometimes the best way to begin exploring them is through a story.
